Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies now also provide the option of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button allows you to speak with a dispatcher through a base unit located in your house.

Many businesses use mobile alternatives, too. You can utilize these systems in the house, but they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and incorporate GPS technology. In this manner, if you get lost or press the call button for help, but are unable to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

  • Should You Add a Fall-Detection Function?
  • Some businesses provide the alternative of automatic fall detection, for an additional month-to-month charge. Makers state these gadgets sense falls when they happen and immediately call the dispatch center, just as they would if you had actually pushed the call button.

  • Whats the Expense?

Guarantee and cancellation policies. Search for a complete money-back assurance, or at least a trial duration, in case you are not pleased with the service. And you’ll desire the capability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a full refund if month-to-month costs have actually already been paid).
Discounts. Inquire about discounts for several individuals in the very same household, as well as for veterans, subscription companies, medical insurance or via a healthcare facility, medical or care organization. Ask if the company uses any discount alternatives or a moving cost scale for individuals with lower earnings.
Insurance. For the a lot of part, Medicare and personal insurance provider will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some States, Medicaid might cover all or part of the expense. You can consult your private insurance company to see if it provides discount rates or recommendations.
Tax deductions. Talk to your tax expert to find out if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a clinically necessary expenditure.
