Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Numerous companies now also provide the alternative of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button permits you to speak with a dispatcher through a base system situated in your home.

Lots of businesses provide mobile choices, too. You can use these systems in your home, however they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and incorporate GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or push the call button for assistance, but are unable to talk, the monitoring service can find you.

  • Should You Add a Fall-Detection Function?

Some businesses offer the choice of automated fall detection, for an additional monthly fee. Manufacturers state these devices notice falls when they take place and immediately get in touch with the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

  • Whats the Expense?

Look for a company with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair work. Do not fall for frauds that provide complimentary service or “donated or used” devices.
Agreements. You ought to not have to participate in a long-term agreement. You must only need to pay ongoing monthly fees, which need to range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Beware about spending for service in advance, given that you never know when you’ll have to stop the service momentarily (due to a hospitalization, for example) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Look for a complete money-back warranty, or at least a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll desire the ability to cancel at any time without any charges (and a complete refund if month-to-month costs have actually already been paid).
Discount rates. Inquire about discounts for several people in the exact same family, along with for veterans, subscription companies, medical insurance or through a medical facility, medical or care company. Ask if the company provides any discount rates alternatives or a sliding cost scale for individuals with lower earnings.
For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the expenses of a medical alert. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it provides discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Consult your tax accountant to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically required expense.

Highlands is a census-designated place (CDP) located along the Union Pacific Railroad, north of Interstate 10 and west of Farm to Market Road 2100, in an industrialized area of unincorporated Harris County, Texas, United States.[3] The population was 8,612 at the 2020 census.[4]

The community was named Highlands because the east bank of the San Jacinto River, where Highlands is located, has a higher elevation than the west bank of the river. By 1908, Highlands became a station on the Beaumont, Sour Lake and Western Railway. A post office opened in 1929. Highlands incorporated in 1930, but its charter was voided, leaving Highlands as unincorporated again. In the 1930s, Highlands had 20 businesses and its population decreased from 350 to 200. The 1936 Harris County highway map indicated two churches, a factory, a school, and a sawmill in Highlands. Highlands housed military members and war plant personnel during World War II. By 1948, Highlands had 3,000 residents and 75 businesses. In the 1950s, local business decreased and the population decreased to 2,723. A 1956 attempt for Highlands to incorporate did not pass. In the 1960s, Highlands had a canning sales company and an industrial chemical company. In the early 1960s, Highlands had 4,336 residents and 82 businesses. In 1965, W. O. Hutson built the Double Trouble Youth Rodeo Arena. In the early 1970s, Highlands had 3,462 residents and 66 businesses. By 1977, Highlands had 5,000 residents; in 1989 Highlands reported the same population. In 1990, Highlands had an estimated population of 6,632.[3]
