Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Lots of businesses now also offer the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button permits you to speak with a dispatcher through a base unit situated in your home.

Many companies use mobile choices, too. You can use these systems in your home, however they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and incorporate GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or push the call button for assistance, but are unable to talk, the tracking service can find you.

  • Should You Include a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some businesses use the alternative of automated fall detection, for an additional regular monthly charge. Makers say these devices notice falls when they occur and immediately contact the dispatch center, simply as they would if you had pressed the call button.

  • Whats the Expense?

Look for a company with no additional charges related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair work. Don’t fall for scams that use complimentary service or “donated or used” devices.
Contracts. You need to not need to enter into a long-lasting contract. You must only have to pay ongoing monthly fees, which should vary in between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about spending for service ahead of time, because you never ever know when you’ll have to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Warranty and cancellation policies. Search for a complete money-back assurance, or at least a trial duration, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time without any penalties (and a complete refund if month-to-month costs have currently been paid).
Discounts. Inquire about discounts for multiple individuals in the same home, along with for veterans, subscription organizations, medical insurance or via a medical facility, medical or care organization. Ask if the company uses any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower earnings.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurer will not cover the expenses of a medical alert. In some States, Medicaid may cover all or part of the expense. You can contact your personal insurance company to see if it provides discounts or recommendations.
Tax reductions. Contact your tax expert to find out if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically essential expenditure.

Splendora is a city in Montgomery County, Texas, United States. The population was 1,683 at the 2020 census. Splendora was named in reference to the "splendor of its floral environment."[5]

In the late 1800s, The Houston, East and West Texas Railway (now the Union Pacific Railroad), at the suggestion of Charles Cox, decided to build a narrow-gauge spur at the location of what is now Splendora. The location was originally known as "Cox's Switch."[5] The area slowly grew more populated after W.W. Burrow built a general store in the area in 1883.[6] In 1896, Cox recommended to the town's postmaster, Milton Z. King, that the town's name should be changed. They decided to change the name to Splendora because of the "splendor of its floral environment."[5][6] The town was incorporated in December 1966.[5]
