Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Lots of companies now also offer the choice of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button allows you to talk to a dispatcher through a base system situated in your house.

But, lots of businesses offer mobile options, too. You can use these systems in your home, but they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and incorporate GPS technology. In this manner, if you get lost or push the call button for aid, but are not able to talk, the tracking service can find you.

  • Should You Include a Fall-Detection Function?

Some companies offer the option of automated fall detection, for an extra month-to-month fee. Producers say these devices notice falls when they happen and instantly call the dispatch center, just as they would if you had actually pressed the call button.

  • Whats the Cost?

Charges. Be careful of complicated rate strategies and hidden fees. Search for a business with no extra charges associated with devices, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair work. Don’t fall for scams that use totally free service or “donated or utilized” devices.
You ought to only have to pay continuous month-to-month fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be mindful about paying for service in advance, considering that you never ever know when you’ll need to stop the service momentarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or completely.
Assurance and cancellation policies. Try to find a complete money-back warranty, or a minimum of a trial duration, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll desire the capability to cancel at any time with no charges (and a complete refund if monthly charges have currently been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for multiple individuals in the exact same household, in addition to for veterans, subscription organizations, medical insurance coverage or via a medical facility, medical or care company. Ask if the business uses any discount rates alternatives or a sliding charge scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance coverage. For the many part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the expenses of a medical alert. In some States, Medicaid might cover all or part of the expense. You can consult your private insurance provider to see if it uses discount rates or recommendations.
Tax deductions. Contact your tax professional to find out if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically needed expenditure.

Vidor (/ˈvaɪdər/ VY-dər) is a city in western Orange County, Texas, United States. A city of Southeast Texas, it lies at the intersection of Interstate 10 and Farm to Market Road 105, 6 miles (9.7 km) east of Beaumont. The town is mainly a bedroom community for the nearby refining complexes in Beaumont and Port Arthur and is part of the Beaumont-Port Arthur metropolitan statistical area. Its population was 9,789 at the 2020 census.

The area was heavily logged after the construction of the Texarkana and Fort Smith Railway that was later part of a line that ran from Kansas City to Port Arthur, Texas. The city was named after lumberman Charles Shelton Vidor, owner of the Miller-Vidor Lumber Company and father of director King Vidor. By 1909, the Vidor community had a post office and four years later a company tram road was built. Almost all Vidor residents worked for the company. In 1924, the Miller-Vidor Lumber Company moved to Lakeview, just north of Vidor, in search of virgin timber. A small settlement remained and the Miller-Vidor subdivision was laid out in 1929.
