Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were created to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Lots of businesses now also use the alternative of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button allows you to speak with a dispatcher through a base unit located in your house.

But, many companies offer mobile alternatives, too. You can use these systems in the house, however they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and integrate GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or press the call button for aid, but are not able to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

  • Should You Include a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies use the option of automated fall detection, for an additional monthly cost. Makers say these gadgets pick up falls when they occur and instantly contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had actually pressed the call button.

  • Whats the Cost?

Look for a business with no extra charges related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair work. Don’t fall for rip-offs that offer complimentary service or “donated or used” equipment.
You need to just have to pay ongoing monthly charges, which ought to vary between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be cautious about paying for service in advance, considering that you never ever know when you’ll require to stop the service momentarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Assurance and cancellation policies. Look for a full money-back assurance, or at least a trial duration, in case you are not pleased with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no charges (and a complete refund if regular monthly charges have currently been paid).
Discount rates. Ask about discounts for several people in the exact same family, along with for veterans, membership companies, medical insurance coverage or by means of a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the business provides any discount alternatives or a sliding charge scale for individuals with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the a lot of part, Medicare and private insurance provider will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some States, Medicaid may cover all or part of the expense. You can consult your personal insurance company to see if it uses discounts or recommendations.
Tax reductions. Check with your tax professional to discover if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a clinically necessary cost.

Grand Prairie is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, located in Dallas, Tarrant, and Ellis counties.[5] It is part of the Mid-Cities region in the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex. It had a population of 175,396 according to the 2010 census, making it the fifteenth most populous city in the state.[6] Remaining the 15th-most populous city in Texas, the 2020 census reported a population of 196,100.[7]

The city of Grand Prairie was first established as Dechman by Alexander McRae Dechman in 1863. He based the name of the town on Big Prairie, Ohio. Prior to then, he resided in Young County near Fort Belknap. The 1860 U.S. Federal Census—Slave Schedules shows an A McR Dechman as having four slaves, ages 50, 25, 37 and 10. Dechman learned that he could trade his oxen and wagons for land in Dallas County. In 1863, Dechman bought 239.5 acres (96.9 ha) of land on the eastern side of the Trinity River and 100 acres (40 ha) of timber land on the west side of the river for a broken-down wagon, oxen team and US$200 in Confederate money. He tried to establish a home on the property, but ran into difficulties, so he returned to his family in Birdville before joining in the Civil War. In 1867, Dechman filed a town plat with Dallas County, consisting of 50 acres (20 ha).
