Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies now also provide the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button permits you to speak with a dispatcher through a base unit situated in your home.

Lots of companies offer mobile alternatives, too. You can utilize these systems at home, however they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and include GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or push the call button for aid, but are unable to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

  • Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some businesses offer the option of automated fall detection, for an extra month-to-month fee. Producers state these devices pick up falls when they occur and immediately contact the dispatch center, simply as they would if you had pushed the call button.

  • Whats the Expense?

Fees. Beware of complicated rate strategies and hidden costs. Look for a company without any extra costs related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair work. Don’t fall for frauds that provide totally free service or “donated or utilized” devices.
You need to just have to pay ongoing monthly charges, which should vary between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, given that you never understand when you’ll require to stop the service briefly (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or completely.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Search for a complete money-back guarantee, or at least a trial duration, in case you are not pleased with the service. And you’ll desire the ability to cancel at any time with no charges (and a full refund if month-to-month costs have actually already been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discounts for several individuals in the exact same home, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance coverage or by means of a health center, medical or care organization. Ask if the business offers any discount choices or a moving cost scale for people with lower incomes.
For the most part, Medicare and private insurance businesses will not cover the expenses of a medical alert. You can examine with your personal insurance coverage business to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Contact your tax professional to find out if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a clinically needed cost.

Guy is an unincorporated community in Fort Bend County, Texas, United States. According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had a population of 60 in 2000. It is located in the Greater Houston metropolitan area.

The first Anglo settler in the area was Philip F. Ward, in 1890. He was followed within the next four years by S. A. Beard, R. V. Board, J. G. and Frank Goth, H. Hoelewyn, R. G. Hughes, Dr. William Lowry, Sr., and Louis Wolf. A post office was established in 1898 and named for Una Guy Rowland, the disabled daughter of the first postmaster, Orr Rowland. The 1900 Galveston Hurricane caused widespread damage. The Galveston, Harrisburg and San Antonio Railway extended a line south through Guy in 1918. The local businesses moved 2 miles (3.2 km) southwest from their former location to the railroad line. The old town site became known as Old Guy and was where a dance hall was located. In 1922, the settlement boasted a cotton gin, a garage, and a general store with a post office. In 1932, Texas State Highway 36 was built. Since the new road passed between Guy and Old Guy, the businesses and post office relocated northeast to the highway. The old dance hall was moved southwest to SH 36. At this time many residents worked in Damon to the south where oil, sulfur, and limestone were extracted from the Damon Mound salt dome, which is five miles away. In 1940, Guy's population reached 200. The community's population went into a slow decline from 150 in 1945 to 100 in 1966. By 1972, only 25 persons lived in Guy. In 1980, the dance hall was purchased by the George Foundation and moved to the George Ranch, headquartered near Richmond. The 1980s also saw the discontinuation of rail service. In the 1990s, the local population stabilized at approximately 60. Guy had 13 businesses in 2000, including a trucking firm, a convenience store, a new post office building, and a tavern/cafe. Its population was estimated at 239 in 2014.[1]
