Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Lots of businesses now also use the choice of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button enables you to speak with a dispatcher through a base system located in your home.

However, numerous companies provide mobile alternatives, too. You can use these systems at home, however they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and incorporate GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or press the call button for aid, but are unable to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

  • Should You Include a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some businesses offer the alternative of automatic fall detection, for an additional monthly charge. Manufacturers say these gadgets sense falls when they take place and immediately contact the dispatch center, simply as they would if you had pushed the call button.

  • Whats the Expense?

Look for a company with no additional charges related to devices, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Do not fall for scams that provide free service or “donated or used” devices.
You should only have to pay continuous month-to-month charges, which ought to range in between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be mindful about paying for service in advance, because you never know when you’ll require to stop the service momentarily (due to a hospitalization, for circumstances) or completely.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Try to find a full money-back warranty, or at least a trial duration, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the capability to cancel at any time without any penalties (and a complete refund if regular monthly costs have actually already been paid).
Discount rates. Ask about discount rates for several people in the same family, in addition to for veterans, membership companies, medical insurance or through a healthcare facility, medical or care organization. Ask if the business provides any discount rates alternatives or a moving cost scale for individuals with lower incomes.
For the most part, Medicare and personal insurance companies will not cover the expenses of a medical alert. You can check with your personal insurance business to see if it uses discounts or recommendations.
Tax deductions. Consult your tax professional to learn if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a clinically required cost.

Haslet is a city in mostly Tarrant County and partly in Denton County within the Dallas–Fort Worth metroplex in the U.S. state of Texas, and is located 15 miles north of downtown Fort Worth and 20 miles south of Denton. Haslet borders Interstate 35W, U.S. Highway 287, and Alliance Airport. The population was 1,952 at the 2020 census.
