Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Numerous businesses now also offer the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button enables you to speak with a dispatcher through a base unit located in your house.

Many companies offer mobile options, too. You can utilize these systems in your home, however they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and include GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or press the call button for help, but are unable to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

  • Should You Include a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some businesses use the option of automated fall detection, for an extra monthly charge. Manufacturers state these devices sense falls when they occur and automatically call the dispatch center, simply as they would if you had actually pushed the call button.

  • Whats the Cost?

Look for a company with no additional costs related to devices, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for rip-offs that provide free service or “donated or utilized” devices.
Contracts. You ought to not need to enter into a long-term agreement. You must only have to pay continuous month-to-month fees, which need to range in between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service beforehand, given that you never ever understand when you’ll need to stop the service briefly (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Try to find a full money-back assurance, or a minimum of a trial duration, in case you are not pleased with the service. And you’ll desire the ability to cancel at any time without any charges (and a complete refund if regular monthly charges have currently been paid).
Discount rates. Inquire about discount rates for numerous people in the same household, in addition to for veterans, membership companies, medical insurance or through a hospital, medical or care company. Ask if the business uses any discount rates alternatives or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance coverage. For the most part, Medicare and personal insurer will not cover the expenses of a medical alert. In some States, Medicaid might cover all or part of the cost. You can consult your private insurance provider to see if it provides discount rates or referrals.
Tax reductions. Talk to your tax accountant to discover if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a clinically required expense.

La Vernia is a city in Wilson County, Texas, United States. La Vernia is on the south bank of Cibolo Creek at the junction of U.S. Highway 87 and Texas Farm to Market Road 775, approximately 25 miles east of downtown San Antonio.[4] The population was 1,077 at the 2020 census.[5][6] La Vernia is part of the San Antonio Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The La Vernia area was first inhabited by the Coahuiltecan speaking peoples of Texas and subsequently by nomadic bands of Apache and Comanche who migrated to Texas in the 17th century. One of the earliest land grants made was to Erastus "Deaf" Smith. Smith married Guadalupe Ruiz Durán, a Mexican citizen, who was descended from one of the original Tejano or Spanish Texas families;[7] and as such, received a land grant from the Mexican government on Cibolo Creek, north of present-day La Vernia in 1825. This area remained primarily unsettled by Europeans until 1837, when veterans from the Texas Revolution began to arrive.
