Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Numerous businesses now also provide the option of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button enables you to talk to a dispatcher through a base unit situated in your house.

Many businesses offer mobile options, too. You can utilize these systems in your home, but they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and integrate GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or push the call button for help, but are not able to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

  • Should You Include a Fall-Detection Function?
  • Some businesses provide the choice of automatic fall detection, for an additional month-to-month fee. Makers say these devices notice falls when they happen and immediately get in touch with the dispatch center, just as they would if you had actually pressed the call button.

  • Whats the Cost?
  • Look for a company with no additional charges related to equipment, shipping, setup, activation, or service and repair work. Don’t fall for frauds that offer totally free service or “donated or utilized” equipment.
You should only have to pay continuous regular monthly costs, which must range in between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never ever understand when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or completely.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Search for a full money-back guarantee, or at least a trial period, in case you are not pleased with the service. And you’ll desire the ability to cancel at any time without any charges (and a full refund if regular monthly costs have already been paid).
Discount rates. Ask about discount rates for multiple individuals in the same family, in addition to for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance coverage or by means of a medical facility, medical or care organization. Ask if the company uses any discount rates alternatives or a sliding charge scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance coverage. For the most part, Medicare and personal insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some States, Medicaid might cover all or part of the expense. You can check with your private insurance company to see if it provides discounts or referrals.
Tax deductions. Talk to your tax professional to find out if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a clinically required cost.

A medical alarm can produce a huge distinction in the lives of senior people and individuals with special requirements. Understood as a medical alert or Personal Emergency Response System (PERS), it was developed to signal the existence of a risk requiring instant awareness and summon emergency medical workers. Senior citizens or individuals with specials needs have a higher risk for these things, and may be unable to cope with them without having support. This is when a medical alarm might be important.

The standard of help that users of medical alert system have privilege to is another significant selling point. Lott is a city in Falls County, Texas, United States. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 759.[3]

The Texas Townsite Company bought the land in 1889. When the San Antonio and Aransas Pass Railway was built through the area in 1890, Lott was founded; it was named in honor of Uriah Lott, president of the railroad. A post office was established at the settlement in 1890, with S. J. Crump as postmaster. When the community was incorporated by unanimous vote later that year, its population was estimated at more than 200. By 1892 Lott had Baptist, Methodist, and Presbyterian churches, two cotton gins and gristmills, a weekly newspaper, and 350 residents. Its population estimates were as high as 1,200 by the end of the 1890s. Lott continued to prosper throughout the first part of the 20th century when the town developed into a well-known speed trap, securing the town's primary revenue source to the present day. The First National Bank of Lott was established in 1903, and the Lott State Bank was chartered in 1909. Local businesses did well, and residents were optimistic about the community's future growth. Lott's economy received an additional boost in the 1920s when State Highway 44 (later U.S. 77) built through the community. The Great Depression, however, brought significant changes. In 1933, the First National Bank of Lott went into receivership and did not reopen. During the mid-1930s, many local families had to accept government relief to make ends meet, although the Public Works Administration and the Works Progress provided some residents with jobs on street and water works.

Cotton and corn were for many years the staple crops of area farmers, but government subsidies encouraged diversification into stock raising and truck farming. The population of the community was reported as 921 in the 1930s; it rose to 1,021 in the 1940s, but fell to 956 by the early 1950s. Lott lost its rail service in 1967, when the Southern Pacific abandoned the section of track between Waco and Rosebud. Population estimates for Lott fluctuated between 750 and 950 residents from the 1960s through the 1980s, and the number of businesses fell steadily, from forty-five in the 1940s to twelve in the 1980s. Thirteen businesses and 828 residents were reported in Lott at the end of the 1980s. In 1990 its population was estimated at 775.
