Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Originally, medical alert systems were developed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Numerous businesses now also provide the choice of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button allows you to talk to a dispatcher through a base system situated in your home.

But, many companies use mobile alternatives, too. You can utilize these systems in the house, however they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and include GPS technology. In this manner, if you get lost or press the call button for help, but are unable to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

  • Should You Include a Fall-Detection Function?

Some companies provide the option of automated fall detection, for an extra month-to-month cost. Producers state these devices pick up falls when they occur and automatically call the dispatch center, simply as they would if you had pressed the call button.

  • Whats the Expense?

Look for a company with no extra costs related to equipment, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair work. Do not fall for rip-offs that use free service or “donated or utilized” equipment.
You need to only have to pay ongoing regular monthly costs, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be mindful about paying for service in advance, because you never ever know when you’ll need to stop the service briefly (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or permanently.
Assurance and cancellation policies. Search for a full money-back guarantee, or a minimum of a trial period, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the capability to cancel at any time without any charges (and a complete refund if regular monthly costs have already been paid).
Discount rates. Inquire about discount rates for several individuals in the exact same household, as well as for veterans, membership organizations, medical insurance or by means of a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the business uses any discount rates alternatives or a moving cost scale for people with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance provider will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some States, Medicaid might cover all or part of the expense. You can check with your private insurer to see if it provides discounts or referrals.
Tax reductions. Contact your tax expert to find out if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically essential cost.

Merit is an unincorporated community in Hunt County, Texas, United States. It is 15 miles northwest of Greenville. Merit has a post office with the ZIP code 75458.[1] The Bland Independent School District serves area students.

Settlement of the site began sometime in the late 1860s or early 1870s through the efforts of Dr. Alexander Murchison, [1] who arrived from Polk County, Georgia, who organized a Methodist church in April 1871. In the 1870s, Judge William Wallace Meritt's visit and speech impressed the residents so much that they named the town after him. The community received a post office in 1884. Two years later the tracks of the Gulf, Colorado, and Santa Fe Railway reached the settlement, which stimulated cotton production, helped stores, and began a newspaper. By the early 1890s the railroad had established Merit as a shipping point for area farmers. At that time the town had a steam cotton gin, a gristmill, some 20 other businesses, and 300 residents. By the eve of World War I the community's population had increased to 500, and the number of businesses to more than 25, including two banks.
