Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many companies now also provide the alternative of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button enables you to speak with a dispatcher through a base unit located in your house.

However, lots of businesses provide mobile choices, too. You can use these systems in your home, but they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and incorporate GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or press the call button for aid, but are unable to talk, the tracking service can locate you.

  • Should You Include a Fall-Detection Function?

Some businesses offer the choice of automated fall detection, for an extra month-to-month cost. Manufacturers say these gadgets pick up falls when they happen and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pushed the call button.

  • Whats the Cost?

Costs. Be careful of complicated pricing plans and concealed fees. Try to find a business with no additional charges connected to equipment, shipping, setup, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for frauds that offer complimentary service or “donated or utilized” devices.
Contracts. You must not have to enter into a long-lasting agreement. You should only have to pay continuous monthly charges, which should range in between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service ahead of time, considering that you never know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or completely.
Assurance and cancellation policies. Search for a complete money-back guarantee, or a minimum of a trial duration, in case you are not pleased with the service. And you’ll want the capability to cancel at any time without any penalties (and a complete refund if month-to-month fees have actually currently been paid).
Discounts. Ask about discount rates for numerous people in the same household, as well as for veterans, subscription companies, medical insurance or via a health center, medical or care company. Ask if the company provides any discount options or a moving charge scale for people with lower incomes.
For the many part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. You can inspect with your private insurance business to see if it uses discount rates or recommendations.
Tax deductions. Contact your tax professional to discover if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically essential cost.

Texas City is a city in Galveston County, Texas, United States. Located on the southwest shoreline of Galveston Bay, Texas City is a busy deepwater port on Texas's Gulf Coast, as well as a petroleum-refining and petrochemical-manufacturing center. The population was 51,898 at the 2020 census,[3] making it the third-largest city in Galveston County, behind League City and Galveston. It is a part of the Houston metropolitan area. The city is notable as the site of a major explosion in 1947 that demolished the port and much of the city.

Three duck hunters in 1891 noted that a location along Galveston Bay, known locally as Shoal Point, had the potential to become a major port. Shoal Point had existed since the 1830s, when veterans of the Texas Revolution (1835–1836) were awarded land for their services. The name was applied to the community when a post office opened in 1878.[5] The duck hunters were three brothers from Duluth, Minnesota, named Benjamin, Henry, and Jacob Myers. After they returned to Duluth, they formed the Myers Brothers syndicate, convinced other investors to put up money to buy 10,000 acres (4,000 hectares) of Galveston Bay frontage, including Shoal Point. They renamed the area Texas City.
