Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Lots of businesses now also offer the alternative of home-based systems that work over a cellular network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pressing the wearable call button allows you to talk to a dispatcher through a base unit located in your home.

Lots of companies provide mobile choices, too. You can use these systems in the house, but they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and integrate GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or push the call button for assistance, but are unable to talk, the tracking service can find you.

  • Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?

Some companies use the option of automatic fall detection, for an extra month-to-month charge. Makers say these gadgets sense falls when they happen and automatically contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had pressed the call button.

  • Whats the Cost?

Costs. Be careful of complicated rate strategies and concealed charges. Search for a company with no additional charges related to devices, shipping, setup, activation, or service and repair. Don’t fall for scams that use totally free service or “donated or utilized” devices.
Contracts. You should not need to participate in a long-term contract. You ought to just need to pay continuous monthly charges, which need to vary in between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Take care about spending for service in advance, because you never understand when you’ll need to stop the service briefly (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or completely.
Warranty and cancellation policies. Search for a full money-back assurance, or at least a trial duration, in case you are not pleased with the service. And you’ll want the capability to cancel at any time with no charges (and a full refund if month-to-month charges have already been paid).
Discount rates. Inquire about discount rates for several people in the same home, as well as for veterans, membership companies, medical insurance or through a healthcare facility, medical or care organization. Ask if the business provides any discount alternatives or a sliding cost scale for people with lower earnings.
Insurance. For the a lot of part, Medicare and private insurance provider will not cover the expenses of a medical alert. In some States, Medicaid might cover all or part of the cost. You can check with your personal insurance company to see if it provides discount rates or referrals.
Tax deductions. Check with your tax professional to find out if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a clinically required expense.

Umbarger (/ˈʌmbɑːrɡər/ UM-bar-gər) is a census-designated place in Randall County, Texas, United States.[1] According to the Handbook of Texas, the community had an estimated population of 327 in 2000.[2] The community is part of the Amarillo, Texas Metropolitan Statistical Area.

The origins of the community date back to the mid-1890s. In 1895, rancher S.G. Umbarger leased the site from the Houston and Great Northern Railroad survey lands.[2] He purchased it two years later and established several businesses that catered to area settlers and travelers. The Panhandle and Santa Fe Railway established a switch near Umbarger's ranch in 1898.[3][4] Although Umbarger sold his ranch and moved to nearby Canyon in 1900, the settlement retained its name.
