Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were created to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Lots of companies now also use the option of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who may not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button allows you to speak with a dispatcher through a base unit located in your house.

Many businesses use mobile choices, too. You can use these systems in your home, but they’ll also allow you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These run over cellular networks and integrate GPS technology. In this manner, if you get lost or press the call button for help, but are not able to talk, the tracking service can find you.

  • Should You Add a Fall-Detection Function?
  • Some businesses provide the choice of automatic fall detection, for an extra month-to-month fee. Makers say these gadgets pick up falls when they happen and automatically get in touch with the dispatch center, just as they would if you had actually pressed the call button.

  • Whats the Cost?
  • Charges. Be careful of complex rate strategies and concealed fees. Search for a business without any extra fees related to devices, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair work. Don’t succumb to frauds that offer free service or “donated or utilized” devices.
Agreements. You must not need to enter into a long-term contract. You should only need to pay continuous regular monthly fees, which must vary in between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Beware about spending for service beforehand, since you never understand when you’ll need to stop the service momentarily (due to a hospitalization, for instance) or completely.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Search for a full money-back assurance, or a minimum of a trial duration, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no charges (and a full refund if month-to-month costs have already been paid).
Discounts. Inquire about discounts for several people in the same family, along with for veterans, subscription organizations, medical insurance coverage or by means of a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the business uses any discount alternatives or a moving charge scale for individuals with lower incomes.
Insurance. For the most part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the costs of a medical alert. In some States, Medicaid might cover all or part of the expense. You can consult your personal insurer to see if it uses discount rates or referrals.
Tax reductions. Contact your tax professional to discover if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a clinically required cost.

A medical alarm can produce a huge difference in the lives of senior people and people with special requirements. Likewise referred to as a medical alert or Personal Emergency Response System (PERS), it was produced to signify the presence of a danger requiring instantaneous awareness and summon emergency medical workers. Senior citizens or disabled people residing on their own are the primary users of this type of gadget.

Household accidents are common, however, there are instances where they can be deadly. These are mainly cases where victims may have made it if aid had showed up earlier. Elders or people with impairments have a higher risk for these things, and may be not able to deal with them without having support. This is when a medical alarm could be indispensable.

The requirement of aid that wearers of medical alert system have entitlement to is another major selling point. Individuals who respond to calls at the monitoring center are trained to handle medical emergencies and will provide instant assistance. Users’ personal details is usually continued file to guarantee that excellent care and preventative measures are taken when reacting to medical problems or emergency situations.

Belton is a city in the U.S. state of Texas, within the Killeen-Temple metropolitan area. The city is on the Interstate 35 corridor between Austin and Waco and is the seat of Bell County. The population was 20,547 in 2015 according to a US Census Estimate.[3] As of 2015 the metro region had a population of 450,051.[4]

Belton and Bell County have been the site of human habitation since at least 6000 BC. Evidence of early inhabitants, including campsites, kitchen middens and burial mounds from the late prehistoric era have been discovered in the Stillhouse Hollow Lake and Belton Lake areas. The earliest inhabitants were the Tonkawa, who traditionally followed buffalo by foot. Belton was also home to the Lipan Apache, Wacos, Nadaco, Kiowas and Comanche. By the 1840's most tribes had been pushed out by settlements, but skirmishes with the Commanches existed until the early 1870's.[5]

Belton was first settled 1850 and named Nolanville, taking the name of nearby Nolan Springs which were named for Texan explorer Philip Nolan. In 1851 it changed its name to Belton after being named the county seat of newly created Bell County named after Texas' governor, Peter Hansborough Bell. In 1860 the population was 300, the largest in the county. During the run up to the civil war, Belton had a large pro-Union minority. A Whig Party paper and anti-secession paper called "The Independent" was published there and the city voted overwhelmingly for Sam Houston for governor, who was strongly against Texas secession.[6] Nonetheless, in 1861 Bell County voted for secession and many residents fought in the Confederate Army. After the civil war, Belton experienced unrest. Several pro-union sympathizers were lynched in 1866 and Federal troops were called in to protect the Federal Judge serving in the city. After reconstruction, the city, close to a major feeder of the Chisholm Trail, served as growing business center for the region.
