Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ

    1. Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?

Initially, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your house, with your landline telephone.

And you can still go that route. Many businesses now also offer the alternative of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who might not have a landline.

With these systems, pushing the wearable call button enables you to speak to a dispatcher through a base unit located in your home.

Many businesses offer mobile choices, too. You can utilize these systems at home, however they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.

These operate over cellular networks and integrate GPS technology. By doing this, if you get lost or press the call button for help, however are not able to talk, the monitoring service can locate you.

  • Should You Add a Fall-Detection Feature?
  • Some businesses offer the alternative of automated fall detection, for an additional month-to-month cost. Makers say these devices pick up falls when they occur and immediately call the dispatch center, simply as they would if you had pushed the call button.

  • Whats the Cost?
  • Fees. Beware of complex price strategies and hidden costs. Search for a company without any additional fees connected to devices, shipping, installation, activation, or service and repair work. Do not succumb to frauds that provide complimentary service or “donated or utilized” devices.
Contracts. You should not have to participate in a long-term agreement. You ought to only need to pay continuous monthly fees, which should range between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about paying for service in advance, since you never ever know when you’ll need to stop the service temporarily (due to a hospitalization, for example) or completely.
Warranty and cancellation policies. Try to find a complete money-back warranty, or a minimum of a trial duration, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the capability to cancel at any time without any penalties (and a full refund if monthly charges have actually already been paid).
Discount rates. Inquire about discounts for several people in the same household, in addition to for veterans, subscription companies, medical insurance or by means of a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the business uses any discount alternatives or a sliding charge scale for people with lower earnings.
For the many part, Medicare and private insurance companies will not cover the expenses of a medical alert. You can examine with your personal insurance company to see if it offers discounts or referrals.
Tax reductions. Talk to your tax expert to learn if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically needed expense.

Killeen is a city in Bell County, Texas, United States. According to the 2010 census, its population was 127,921,[3] making it the 21st-most populous city in Texas. It is the principal city of the Killeen–Temple–Fort Hood Metropolitan Statistical Area.

Killeen is directly adjacent to the main cantonment of Fort Hood. Its economy depends on the activities of the post, and the soldiers and their families stationed there. It is known as a military “boom town” because of its rapid growth and high influx of soldiers.

In 1881, the Gulf, Colorado and Santa Fe Railway extended its tracks through central Texas, buying 360 acres (1.5 km2) a few miles southwest of a small farming community known as Palo Alto, which had existed since about 1872. The railroad platted a 70-block town on its land and named it after Frank P. Killeen, the assistant general manager of the railroad. By the next year, the town included a railroad depot, a saloon, several stores, and a school. Many of the residents of the surrounding smaller communities in the area moved to Killeen. By 1884, the town had grown to include about 350 people, served by five general stores, two gristmills, two cotton gins, two saloons, a lumberyard, a blacksmith shop, and a hotel.
