- Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?
Originally, medical alert systems were designed to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.
And you can still go that route. Many companies now also use the alternative of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who might not have a landline.
With these systems, pressing the wearable call button enables you to speak to a dispatcher through a base system situated in your home.
Many companies offer mobile alternatives, too. You can utilize these systems at home, however they’ll also enable you to call for help while you’re out and about.
These operate over cellular networks and incorporate GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or push the call button for help, however are not able to talk, the tracking service can locate you.
Some businesses use the option of automatic fall detection, for an extra regular monthly cost. Producers state these devices notice falls when they take place and automatically contact the dispatch center, simply as they would if you had pressed the call button.
Look for a business with no extra fees related to equipment, shipping, setup, activation, or service and repair work. Do not fall for frauds that use totally free service or “donated or utilized” devices.
Contracts. You must not need to participate in a long-term agreement. You need to just need to pay continuous month-to-month costs, which must vary in between $25 and $45 a month (about $1 a day). Be careful about spending for service ahead of time, considering that you never ever know when you’ll need to stop the service momentarily (due to a hospitalization, for example) or permanently.
Guarantee and cancellation policies. Try to find a complete money-back warranty, or a minimum of a trial duration, in case you are not satisfied with the service. And you’ll want the ability to cancel at any time with no penalties (and a complete refund if regular monthly fees have actually already been paid).
Discount rates. Ask about discount rates for numerous people in the exact same family, along with for veterans, subscription companies, medical insurance coverage or via a hospital, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower earnings.
For the many part, Medicare and personal insurance businesses will not cover the expenses of a medical alert. You can check with your personal insurance business to see if it uses discount rates or referrals.
Tax deductions. Consult your tax professional to discover if the cost of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically required expense.
