Senior Alert Systems and Medical Alert Devices FAQ
-
- Do You want a Home-Based or Mobile System?
Originally, medical alert systems were created to work inside your home, with your landline telephone.
And you can still go that route. Numerous companies now also provide the alternative of home-based systems that work over a mobile network, for those who may not have a landline.
With these systems, pushing the wearable call button allows you to speak to a dispatcher through a base system situated in your home.
But, numerous businesses use mobile options, too. You can utilize these systems in your home, but they’ll also permit you to call for help while you’re out and about.
These run over cellular networks and integrate GPS technology. This way, if you get lost or push the call button for help, but are unable to talk, the tracking service can locate you.
- Should You Include a Fall-Detection Feature?
Some companies use the option of automatic fall detection, for an extra regular monthly cost. Makers state these devices notice falls when they happen and immediately contact the dispatch center, just as they would if you had actually pressed the call button.
- Whats the Cost?
Costs. Beware of complex pricing plans and hidden charges. Try to find a business with no extra costs related to equipment, shipping, setup, activation, or service and repair work. Do not succumb to rip-offs that provide totally free service or “donated or used” devices.

Assurance and cancellation policies. Try to find a complete money-back warranty, or at least a trial period, in case you are not pleased with the service. And you’ll want the capability to cancel at any time without any penalties (and a full refund if month-to-month costs have actually currently been paid).
Discount rates. Ask about discount rates for numerous individuals in the very same household, in addition to for veterans, membership companies, medical insurance or through a healthcare facility, medical or care organization. Ask if the company offers any discount options or a sliding fee scale for people with lower incomes.
For the many part, Medicare and personal insurance coverage businesses will not cover the costs of a medical alert. You can check with your private insurance coverage business to see if it offers discount rates or referrals.
Tax deductions. Consult your tax professional to learn if the expense of a medical alert is tax deductible as a medically needed expenditure.
